This data represents the administrative divisions as of early 2016. If you require data from early 2017 to early 2022, please visit: shengshixian.com (homophonic for: Province-City-County).
During 2016, a total of 29 counties and county-level cities nationwide were converted into districts, 3 counties were converted into county-level cities, 4 county-level units were merged into 2 districts, 2 prefectures were converted into prefecture-level cities (with 2 of their subordinate county-level units converted into districts), 2 provinces and 1 prefecture-level city changed their government seats, 1 new county-level city and 2 new districts were established, 1 county-level city changed its prefecture-level affiliation, 1 district was renamed, and the towns/townships of 7 county-level units were transferred to 8 county-level units. # Areas with Administrative Division Changes in 2016
Data for 2021 and 2022 are based on the 2020 administrative division base map and were modified chronologically. Data prior to 2020 requires reverse deduction; that is, the early 2016 administrative division data references all division changes that occurred throughout 2016, rather than 2015.
First are the regions where administrative boundaries did not change, including the conversion of counties into districts or county-level cities. This part mainly involves the modification of attribute information (including place name, division code, county type, county-level code, former name, and their corresponding English attributes). These were not all displayed with maps; the main changed attribute information has been listed in the text.
Next are regions where boundaries were changed. Data updates were performed by referencing the 2015 national basic information administrative divisions (currency of 2012), the Ministry of Civil Affairs 2018 division data, 2013 administrative division data (source unknown), and the 2013 national town/township boundary data.
