# Preface
Administrative-division data is an important type of fundamental geographic information data. At present, there are many options of national administrative-division data on the market, but there are almost no high-quality administrative-area data that are openly accessible.

Based on this, I would like to produce a set of openly accessible high-quality administrative-division data from 2015 to 2022. This dataset takes the county-level division data from the 2022 National Fundamental Geographic Information data as the vector base, supplemented by Amap (AutoNavi) administrative-division data, the Shudu Chengshi division data, and Tianditu administrative-division data. It uses the administrative-division changes published by the Ministry of Civil Affairs over the years as the attribute base. It has the characteristics of multiple years, rich attributes, correct national boundaries, and continuous updates. Currently, 40% of the workload for this dataset has been completed. The division data from 2015 to 2019 will be released in the coming months.

Considering that most division data lack administrative-division attributes, and with reference to the Ministry of Civil Affairs codes and the GADM international attribute naming conventions, I have assigned different field attributes for the county-level, prefecture-level, and province-level data. The specific field attributes are shown below.

# Areas of Administrative-Division Change in Early 2022
Previously, I had produced early-2020 (www.shengshixian.com/pages/b8a988) and early-2021 administrative-division data (www.shengshixian.com/pages/2021). With reference to the full-year 2021 administrative-division changes published by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, we continue to produce the 2022 administrative-division data.

At this point, the early-2022 division data has been completed. Let's take a look at the data effect:
# Province-Level Type Display
As of January 1, 2022, China has 34 province-level units: 4 municipalities, 23 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, and 2 special administrative regions.
# Prefecture-Level Type Display
As of January 1, 2022, China has 333 prefecture-level units: 293 prefecture-level cities, 7 prefectures, 30 autonomous prefectures, and 3 leagues. In addition, 38 prefectures are not counted (e.g., province-directly-governed counties, municipalities, etc.), bringing the total to 371 vector features.
# County-Level Type Display
As of January 1, 2022, China has 2843 county-level units: 1301 counties, 394 county-level cities, 977 districts, 117 autonomous counties, 49 banners, 3 autonomous banners, 1 special district, and 1 forestry area. In addition, 9 vector features are not included in the county-level category statistics (e.g., the Hong Kong SAR, prefecture-level cities without county-level units such as Zhongshan City and Dongguan City, etc.), bringing the total to 2852 vector features.

# Other Modified Areas
# Topology Error Check in the Data
I was not experienced enough when producing the data, which led to topology errors in the vector data. In this version, the topology errors in the 2020, 2021, and 2022 data are uniformly corrected. The rules of topology check are: no overlaps and no gaps. To avoid further movement during editing, the snapping tolerance was set to an extremely large value.
# Field Attribute Modifications
The administrative code of Lanzhou's Chengguan District in the 2021 and 2020 administrative-division data was incorrect and has been corrected.
The administrative code of Anshan City's Tiexi District in the 2021 and 2020 administrative-division data was incorrect and has been corrected.
The English-name attributes of Shanxi and Shaanxi in the 2022, 2021, and 2020 administrative-division data have been modified: Shaanxi Province — Shaanxi; Shanxi Province — Shanxi.
The former-name field of the 2021 and 2022 administrative-division data has been updated.
# Geometry Modifications
# Errors Found by Myself
In the previous version of modifications to the 2021 and 2020 data, some multi-part areas were split apart. They have been corrected in this round.
In the 2022, 2021, and 2020 prefecture-level and province-level vectors, the Sino-Korean shared territory, which was previously listed as a separate entry, has been merged into the nearby city or province.
# Errors Found by Netizens
This dataset is intended to be maintained for a long time, so patches and fixes are inevitable. Everyone is welcome to point out the shortcomings or errors. I previously received feedback from a netizen (搬砖一时爽). In this version, I have made modifications to the relevant areas.
Modifications were made to Tiemenguan City in Xinjiang in the 2021 and 2022 data. The Tianditu data is used here. The vector of Tiemenguan City obtained from Tianditu has deviations, so the deviation is corrected by using the Tianditu basemap in the software and comparing it with the official Tianditu website.
Based on the netizen's comments, the vectors of the Honggutan District, Jinggangshan City, Taihe County, Leping City, and Changjiang District in Jiangxi Province in the 2022, 2021, and 2020 data have been modified.
