# Areas With Administrative Division Changes in Early 2019
The 2021 and 2022 datasets are based on the 2020 administrative division basemap and are modified chronologically. Data before 2020, however, must be reconstructed retroactively — that is, the early 2019 administrative division data takes into account the division changes made throughout the year 2019, not the 2018 changes.
First, for areas where the administrative boundaries themselves were not changed — including counties abolished and converted into districts or county-level cities — the update mainly involves attribute information (including place name, division code, county type, county code, former name, and the corresponding English attributes). These are not all illustrated with maps; the main updated attributes are listed below.

As of January 1, 2019, China had 34 province-level units: 4 municipalities, 23 provinces, 5 autonomous regions and 2 special administrative regions.
# Prefecture-Level Type Display
As of January 1, 2019, China had 334 prefecture-level units: 294 prefecture-level cities, 7 prefectures, 30 autonomous prefectures and 3 leagues. In addition, 36 vector features were not included in this statistic (such as the municipalities Beijing, etc., the special administrative region Macao, etc., and the county-administered units like Ding'an County, etc.).
# County-Level Type Display
As of January 1, 2019, China had 2,853 county-level units: 1,334 counties, 376 county-level cities, 972 districts, 120 autonomous counties, 49 banners, 3 autonomous banners, 1 special district and 1 forestry district. In addition, 10 vector features were not included in the county-level type statistics (such as the special administrative region Hong Kong, and prefecture-level cities without county-level units such as Zhongshan City and Dongguan City, etc.).

# Attribute Field Modification
The var_name (English name) attribute of the prefecture-level vectors of 2020–2022 was corrected.
The modification-time attribute of the prefecture-level vectors of 2020 and 2021 was wrong and has been fixed.

# Final Words
As I said before starting this dataset: China lacks a usable, long time-series of administrative division data. I wanted to build a dataset that everyone can use — correct and easy to work with. To make it as accessible as possible, I set no download limits and placed no personal ads. Even without any promotion, the total number of downloads from the website (shengshixian.com) alone has exceeded ten thousand. To have reached such a wide audience is truly humbling.
After completing the 2020, 2021 and 2022 datasets in succession, I got caught up in everyday life, and in the blink of an eye it was almost 2023.
